Delhi has been the capital of several ancient Indian empires and a major city along the old trade routes between northwest India and the Indo-Gangetic Plains. It is the site of many ancient and medieval monuments, archaeological sites and remains. The Mughal emperor Shahjahan built the city, now known as "Old Delhi", to serve as the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1649 to 1857.

The capital of India uniquely blends history with modernity in its own way. The city is home to the people of various religions & languages such as Hindi, Urdu, English and Punjabi etc. The administrative centre of India is the place, where people from all corners of the country come to fulfill their dream. The location of the Delhi was one of the prime reasons, why the various dynasties chose it as their seat of rule. The city is today known for its wide roads, flyovers, metro railway service, shopping malls, multiplexes and amusement parks. In addition the city is dotted with several monuments, museums, forts, temples, mosques, parks, gardens and magnificent colonial buildings

Sight Seeing In Delhi :

Qutab Minar -
In 1199, Qutbuddin raised the Qutab Minar either as a victory tower or as a minaret to the adjacent mosque. From a base of 14.32 mtrs. it tapers to 2.75 mtrs. at a height of 72.5 mtrs. It is still the highest stone tower in India, one of the finest stone tower in India, one of the finest Islamic structures ever raised and Delhi's recognised landmark. It was completed by the Sultan's successor and son-in-law, Iltutmish. The tomb of Iltutmish, which he himself built in 1235, is nearby, Its interiors are profusely decorated with calligraphy, though the dome has collapsed.

Red Fort-

Red Fort The largest of old Delhi's monuments is the Lal Quila, or the Red Fort, the thick red sandstone walls of which, bulging with turrets and bastions, have withstood the vagaries of time, and nature. The Lal Quila rises above a wide dry moat, in the northeast corner of the original city of Shahjahanabad. Its walls extend upto two kilometre, and vary in height from 18 metres on the river side to 33 metres on the city side

Jantar Mantar -
Few minutes walk from Connaught Place is is a strange collection of solomon coloured structures. These were built by Maharaja Jai Singh and is actually an observatory. Though not as large as its compatriot in Jaipur Jantar Mantar at Delhi also an attraction for the tourists. The astonishing part of these observatories is that they can calculate many astronomical movements very accurately.

Lotus Temple -
Lotus Temple also known as Bahai Temple, is an absorbing structure built in marble, cement, and sand. The temple is given a beautiful shape of a half-open lotus. Lotus temple an architectural paradigm of the Bahai faith is open to all religions and faiths and is an ultimate spot for meditation and acquiring tolerance and peace.

Jama Masjid-

Jama Masjid is located in the Old Delhi, just to the opposite side of the massive Red Fort. Jama Masjid or the Jami Masjid was built by the Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan, between 1644 and 1658 and is the final architectural piece built by him.

Fair and festival:

The festivals in New Delhi form a great part of the ethnic culture of the city. There is an endless list of festivals in New Delhi, which includes, Id-Ul-Fitar, celebrated to mark the end of Ramzan, the Muslim month of fasting. It is an occasion for fasting and rejoicing. Makar Sakranti is a major harvest festival of India. This festival is not only celebrated in Delhi, but in Tamilnadu, Karnataka, and AndhraPradesh also. Republic Day is also one of the main festivals in New Delhi; the celebrations include a magnificent parade of the armed Forces, folk dances, and floats from all the different states of India.
