Gujarat Tribal Tour -1
Day 01 :
Departure from your home country .
Day 02 :
Arrive Bombay and transfer to hotel. Afternoon city tour. Visit Kamla Nehru Park, Hanging Gardens situated on the slopes of Malabar Hill offering a panoramic view of Marine Drive, Chowpatty Beach, Prince of Wales Museum, Mani Bhawan, Dhobi Ghat, Gateway of India & drive through the Crawford Market, Marine Drive & Flora Fountain. Over-night Bombay.
Day 03 :
Transfer to airport to board flight for Ahmedabad. Arrive and transfer to hotel. Overnight Ahmedabad.
Day 04 :
Full day city tour of Ahmedabad. Visit the magnificent Mosque of Siddi Saiyad with its exquisite stone carvings, the beautiful Jama Masjid, White marbled Hathee Singh's Temple, Dada Hari Baoli, Shaking Minarets and Sabarmati Ashram started by Mahatma Gandhi. Overnight Ahmedabad.
Day 05 :
Drive to Baroda. Overnight Baroda.
Day 06 :
Full day city tour of Baroda. Visit to Chota Udaipur to see the tribal village. Overnight Baroda.
Day 07 :
Drive to Bhavnagar enroute visiting Lothal & Valvader to see the Archaeological Museum and Black buck sanctuary.
In Lothal excavations have brought to light an ancient port complete with dockyard measuring 218 x 37 metres connected to sea through river Bhagava. Streets laid out in chess-board pattern, dividing the town into many blocks, houses with bathrooms and underground drainage system are identical to the ones found at Mohanjodaro and various arts and artifacts are the interesting features of this place. Overnight Bhavnagar.
Day 08 :
Excursion to Palitana Jain temples. Palitana is one of the most scared sites of Jainism. The temple dedicated to Shri Adishwara, the first Jain Apostle, is the most sacred. The Four Faced Temple enshrines a quadruple image of Adinath. A fantastic collection of temple jewels can be seen during the deity adorning ceremonies at the Shri Adishwara Temple. The 600 meter climb to Shetrunjay is made on foot (lift-chairs are available). Overnight in Bhavnagar.
Day 09 :
Drive to Wankaner. Wankaner is 50 kms from Rajkot. Overnight Wankaner.
Day 10 :
Morning drive to Bhuj via Bhujodi (for viewing shawl weaving) and Dhamadka for the block printing. Overnight Bhuj.
Day 11 :
Morning visit to the Collector office for permit to visit restricted Banni villages & city tour. (office is closed on all public holidays including Saturdays and Sundays). Over night in Bhuj.
Day 12 :
Morning visit to Banni villages to see the costumes and colorful dresses and the culture of the people. Overnight Bhuj.
Day 13 :
Full day excursion to Tundavan, Mundra and Mandvi to see the Textiles, Wax printing, the Nomads and the Palace. Overnight Bhuj.
Day 14 :
Transfer to airport to board flight for Bombay. Arrive & transfer to city centre. Later in the evening transfer to airport. End of our services.
Day 15 :

DAY 1 . To Mumbai (Bombay)
Morning flight from Heathrow arriving Mumbai around midnight. Transfer to Hotel.
DAY 2 . To Bhuj
Morning flight to Bhuj a centre of excellence for the unique Gujarat textiles. The Banni tribes living north of Bhuj produce the finest mirror work. Girls spend their youth learning the techniques, cumulating in wonderful extravagant covers, tunics and scarves emblazoned with minute mirrors. Three nights at Hotel ..
DAY 3 . Bhuj
Bhuj is the capital of the Kutch region famed for embroidery, leatherwork, mirror and beadwork and vegetable dye printing. Local women express their creativity by their vibrant, fine and incredibly varied embroidery, unmatched throughout the rest of India. Visit the outlying tribal villages to see the superb skill of the workers.
DAY 4 . Bhuj
Colour and eye for design is the keynote of Gujarat handicrafts, and is an expression of their rich traditional heritage and personal artistic talent. Visits continue today to villages to see first hand the production of these treasures. Tie and dye using wool and silk is especially popular.
DAY 5 . To Wankaner
Drive to Wankaner, nestling on the bend of the River Machhu, dominated by its palace. Stay two nights at the Wankaner Summer Palace. Afternoon explore the palace including the private museum housing relics and antique weapons, visit the unique step well or swim in the Royal swimming pool.
DAY 6 . Wankaner
Full day excursion to Jamnagar, the Royal city, to see tie and dye known as bandhej or bandhani. An amazing process of tying thousands of miniscule knots in a piece of fabric, which simplistically speaking, is dyed at various stages before untying the knots and the design revealed. Here in Jamnagar the intricacy and refined style is outstanding and is produced on superfine cotton ’mulmul’ and muslin. It is used as base material for the special red bridal ‘gharchola odhani’ worn over the white sari, edged with an orange red border for a wedding.
DAY 7 . To Gondal
Morning drive to Gondal ruled for the last 300 years by the family of the Maharaja of Gondal. Stay at the Riverside Palace Hotel for the night. Gondal is an excellent place to relax, visit the Royal Garages and visit an amazing collection of vintage and classic cars, or bird watch at Veri Lake to see pelicans, flamingos, ibis and other wetland birds.
DAY 8 . To Sasan Gir
After breakfast drive to Sasan Gir, home to the remaining population of Asiatic Lion. The numbers are now slowly recovering and an estimated 300 lions live in the sanctuary. Late afternoon game viewing. Panther, hyena, deer and mongoose live in the rugged terrain: mixed deciduous trees indispersed with large ranges of grassland. Stay at The Taj Gir Lodge for two nights.
DAY 9 . Sasan Gir
Morning and late afternoon game viewing. Marsh crocodiles, four-horned antelope, Bengal fox and a plethora of birds including the paradise flycatcher and Bonelli’s eagle add to the diversity of this fascinating park.
DAY 10 . To Bhavnagar
Optional early morning game viewing. Morning drive to Bhavnagar with remainder of the day at leisure. Stay at the Nilambagh Palace for one night.
DAY 11 . To Ahmedabad via Palitana
Early morning start to visit the Palitana Temple complex, one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Jains. The exquisite marble temples are also of significant artistic importance, with intricate carvings, jewelled statues, delicate carved pillars and outstanding toranas (frieze). The Shetrunjaya Hill with its 863 temples, built over a span of 900 years, is reached by 3500 steps or by doli – a rope chair. Outstanding temples include the Adinatha, Bhulavani and Vallabhi built in the 16th, 18th and 19th C respectively. Later visit the town to perhaps hunt for textile related handicrafts. Stay for three nights.
DAY 12 . To Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad was once known as the ‘Manchester of the East’ due to the proliferation of the textile industry. Morning tour includes the Calico Museum, with exhibits of rare tapestries, modern and antique textiles, also sightseeing of the City Havelis. Afternoon visit to local textile market to see block printing and tie & dye pichawari. Optional evening visit to Vaisali Village Restaurant for dinner, traditional folk dancing, music and stage art.
DAY 13 . Ahmedabad
Full day excursion to Patan and Pethapur to see textile work, mashru, double ikat weaving, and wooden block carving. Mashru is a mixed fabric woven essentially for Muslim men, with a combination of cotton and silk. Intricate double ikat weaving produces complex multi-coloured patterns. The characteristic geometric design achieves a natural soft hazy outline.
DAY 14 . To Mumbai
Morning visit to the textile craft outlet for self employed women. Meeting with the crafts women and watching them work. Evening flight to Mumbai and transfer to air port to fly back home .
